A couple of things I like about Liverpool football club (apart from Steven Gerrard).
They have a glorious history : the club was founded in 1892, and are the winners of 18 league titles, five times European champions. They have played and won arguably the most famous match of the century in the finals of 2005 Champions League, beating AC Milan. The other reason is that they have very sober and gentlemanly players. Well, if one has to argue, there can't be a gentleman on the football field (it's for the cricket field!), and even the most skillful players like Maradona, Zidane and more recently Ronaldinho have not given unsporting play a second thought (and have got away with that!). In that regard, Liverpool squad may not be far behind, but the players do look gentlemen. Be it Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch, Xabi Alonso, or even Luis Garcia look smart in their red colours. (Contrast them with the Argentine players in Tevez et. al. who have huge physique and look intimidating).
A sober appearance adds to the beauty of the game they play. Agreed that they have shown a poor away run this year with only a couple of victories, and they have gone hours without scoring an away goal, yet they have finally shown a sign of come back. Only recently they were beaten at home in a long long time They are still unbeaten at home (and this unbeaten run can only be compared to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge), yet they have regained the away form, which is very crucial. With 37 points from a possible 63, they are placed fourth below Bolton for the time being. And by the form of Gerrard, Kuyt and Bellamy, it seems that they have only one direction to move: up.
They couldn't have asked for a tougher draw at the Champions League. They are set to slug it out with defending champions FC Barcelona. With Ronaldinho in top form, this dual promises exciting football. With contrasting styles of play, to say the least, it is going to be an entertaining affair. I am predicting 2-1 victory at Anfield for the Reds and an exciting 2-2 draw at Camp Nou when the Spanish club hosts their English guests on February 21.
The whole point of this post was not just to review the club's progress, but to congratulate Steven Gerrard on receiving (junior-most) British Order of Chivalry, the MBE, or Member of the British Empire.
Member of the British Empire, indeed. Yet a true knight of football for his club and of course, for the country.

I am a gunner and thoroughly enjoyed the two games at "fortress anfield" !!!
But I must admit, apart from the gunners, liverpool are the only side in EPL who play good football.
